Cinematographer Wally Pfister to make directorial debut on project to shoot this fall

As a longtime collaborator of Christopher Nolan, celebrated and Oscar-winning cinematographer Wally Pfister has had plenty of opportunity to see one of the best directors working in action. And now, he’s about to take the skills he’s picked up, and venture out on his own project.

Alcon Entertainment has announced that Pfister will make his directorial debut on a project that, in true Nolan style, is being kept totally under wraps. There is no title, and the script, by newcomer Jack Paglen, is being kept under lock and key. All we know is that it will get in front of cameras this fall. Straight Up Films folks Marisa Polvino, Kate Cohen, Regency Boies and Annie Marter, will produce alongside Alcon dudes, Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove. And, well, that’s about it. Pre-production is underway.

In addition to working with Nolan, Pfister has acted as DoP on a number of commercials, and even helmed a few himself, most notably some spots for the Montana Meth Project, which you can watch here. So what will this turn out to be? Guess we’ll find out soon, but we’re damned curious, and if all else fails, this will still be something great to look at.

Users of the Web Service may use the Content only for their personal, noncommercial use. Further, you may not exceed the limited authorization and access granted to you under this Agreement. You may not resell use of, or access to, the Web Service to any third party. Content consisting of downloadable software may not be reverse-engineered unless specifically authorized by the owner of the software's patent and or copyright. Subject to the provisions of this Agreement, you may post on the Web Service any content owned by you (such as your original statements), content for which you have received express permission from the owner, and content in the public domain. You assume all right and responsibility for determining whether any content is in the public domain. You hereby grant to Straight Up Films, LLC a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free, freely transferable right and license to edit, copy, publish, distribute, translate and otherwise use in any medium and for any purpose any content that you place on the Web Service without compensation to you. You represent and warrant that you are authorized to grant all rights set forth in the preceding sentence.

3. Indemnity

3.1 You agree to indemnify, defend and hold Straight Up Films, LLC, its affiliates, officers, directors, owners, agents, clients, content providers, licensors and licensees harmless from any claim, expense or demand, including without limitation reasonable attorneys’ fees, made by any third party due to or arising out of your breach of this Agreement, or your violation of any law or the rights of a third party.

3.2 Straight Up Films, LLC and its affiliates, officers, directors, owners, agents, content providers, licensors and licensees assume no liability for any direct, indirect, special, consequential, punitive and/or incidental damages of any kind whatsoever, including, but not limited to, lost profits or attorneys' fees, in any way due to, resulting from, or arising in connection with your access to, use of, browsing on, downloading of any images, video, materials or audio from the Site, inability to access, or use the Site, or from your reliance on any information provided on the Site. This includes but is not limited to damage to property or viruses that may infect your computer equipment or other related property. Straight Up Films assumes no responsibility or liability for any obscenity, error, libel, slander, profanity, omission, falsehood, pornography, danger or inaccuracy of content.

The Site may include links to other websites that may be of interest to you. Because we have no control over such websites, you acknowledge and agree that we are not responsible for the availability of such websites and do not endorse and are not responsible or liable for any content, advertising, services, products, or other materials on or available from such websites. At present, Straight Up Films does not collect "cookies" via this Site. We do respect your privacy.
